Printed Books on the Ropes

Science & Technology

This past Sunday a friend of mine texted me about a friend of her's who was extremely upset about the closure of a local Barnes and Noble bookstore in his town in Pennsylvania.  He was threatening to chain himself to the door of the bookstore. The reality is that digital books are fast taking over from printed books and threatens to push them out altogether. I certainly sympathize with those individuals who find it difficult to make the transition from print to digital format. It's not easy. As one who was myself a purist regarding print, I do understand their lament. In addition, it makes sense for Barnes and Noble and other distributors to make the move to digital, for that is where the market is. In the meanwhile, let our friend make the most of his moment of being fettered to the bookstore's door.
