Salad to Go (to work with)

Here is a great idea for making your own salad and taking it to work with you without the hassle of it becoming messy or soggy. Saw my girlfriend do it; that's how I know (must remember to insert smiley face here). What you need to do is put the salad ingredients layer by layer in a seal-able (to maintain freshness) 24-oz jar. Here is how it is done. First, you start by pouring in your favorite dressing at the bottom of the jar - about half of an inch. Of course you can make your own dressing. A simple one is a combination of apple cider vinegar and olive oil, with a bit of pure ground black pepper added if you wish. There. As easy as that. Then add the other ingredients layer after layer as follows:



mushrooms
red onions
mini tomatoes (heirloom or grape variety)
shredded carrot
sliced heart of palm
slices of avocado
lettuce, spinach, or arugula

Seal the jar with the cap and you are good to go. Pour out the ingredient in a bowl or plate come lunchtime at work. The layers in the jar will be reversed on your plate, looking the way a salad should look, as fresh as ever, not soggy, and ready to be eaten. Ah...delicious. Enjoy.
