The Creature

The Arts - Poetry ---

The Creature
by
Ric Couchman

Let us suppose, then, that Art is living,
That the artist's Offspring is dynamic, a living thing.
Then of necessity must the art itself be allowed
To self-evolve, to freely take its own course,
Even as its creator strives to control the direction or outcome.
Should not I also allow my Creation to grow, to live
Even as I attempt to give it form and substance?
And should I not, once it has reached maturity,
Send it forth, with my blessing into the world?
