Current Affairs ---
The world's model and chief exemplar of human rights, morality, freedom of speech, and democracy, the United States of America (along with its vassal the United Kingdom), remains incomprehensibly and unbelievably mute as Saudi Arabia continues to execute those of its citizens who protest against its policies. In fact, a Saudi citizen, Skeikh al-Nimr, a Shiite cleric who led street protests throughout the country, demanding civil liberties, changes to the constitution, and an end to discrimination against Shiites in the kingdom, is facing execution. And while the rest of the world is condemning this imminent barbaric act by this "close ally" of the United States, the U.S. is silent. What this tells me is that our mighty champion of freedom and democracy pays only lip-service to the principles of democracy and freedom, putting its own self-interest before these principles. If the United States does respond to this forth-coming human rights atrocity by Saudi Arabia against another of its citizens, that response will no doubt be, at best, laughingly tepid and amorphous.
